Community Safety EventTackling drugs changes lives

28 October 2008

The Gloucester Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership (CDRP) will be offering seasonal crime prevention advice to the public as nights draw in and Christmas approaches.

The popular annual Community Safety Event in the Mall, Eastgate Street, will be held on Wednesday November 5 and Thursday November 6.

Members of the CDRP, including Gloucestershire Constabulary, Gloucester City Council, Gloucester City Homes, Gloucestershire Drugs and Alcohol Service, the Crime Prevention Panel and the Domestic Violence Referral Point, will be on hand to provide crime prevention advice and information.

Once again the Partnership has produced a crime reduction calendar of topical and seasonal crime prevention messages which will be distributed free of charge.

Members of the partnership will also be giving out ‘coins’ for use in supermarket trolleys, gym lockers, or anywhere where a £1 coin is needed.

By using the CDRP ‘coins’, which are on a key ring, residents can avoid getting their wallets and purses out in public places, like supermarket car parks, where they could become victims of crime.

There will also be informative displays about the CDRP’s work, and a replica drugs case.

Chairman of the CDRP’s Crime Reduction Action Group, Detective Chief Inspector Simon Atkinson said: “Crime in Gloucester has reduced over the last four years. We endeavour to work in partnership to drive crime and anti-social behaviour down further, providing a better quality of life for our communities.

“Crime can often be prevented by taking small precautionary measures and we are keen to inform residents of how they can help to keep themselves safe.

“We also need information from the public on who is committing crime, so I would encourage anyone who can support us in providing that information to ring us on 0845 090 1234 or to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

The CDRP website www.gloscrimereduction.org.ukcontains useful information about CDRP activity and crime prevention advice.
