EVENT CELEBRATES CRIME REDUCTION IN GLOUCESTER

October 27 2005

The Gloucester Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership (CDRP) will be holding their annual Community Safety event at the start of next week.

The popular event will be held in The Mall, Eastgate Shopping Centre, from November 1-3.

The event is always a popular one with residents and visitors. Members of the CDRP, assisted by the Crime Prevention Panel, will be giving out leaflets, advice and information on crime prevention.

They will also be security post-coding mobile phones and there will be displays of CDRP activity as well as a replica drugs case.

The CDRP have again had 2,000 of their renowned calendars printed – each month with a seasonal crime prevention message - to give away whilst stocks last.

The organisation is also celebrating a further reduction in crime in Gloucester.

Overall, total crimes have reduced in the first six months of this year by a further 9.6 per cent (343 incidents), building on an already reducing trend.

To share the good news with residents, members of the team will be distributing drinks bottles as part of their crime prevention message. The bottles will carry the message ‘Crime is down – keep it that way’ and will act as a reminder to young and old alike that we all need to play a part in keeping Gloucester a safe place.

“Although crime is reducing in Gloucester, there will be no let up on our part to drive down crime and anti-social behaviour still further and provide a better quality of life for our communities,” said Pc Kevin Ireland, Crime Reduction Officer for the Forest and Gloucester division.”

“We also need information from the public on who is committing crime, so I would encourage anyone who can support us in providing that information to ring us on 0845 090 1234 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

Bill Crowther, Chair of the CDRP, said: “We want to share the good news of this reduction with residents. We are keen to work with communities in reducing crime and this is an excellent way of hearing the concerns of residents and looking at how we can address their crime related issues.”
