Putting Crime Out of Business:
Business Security and Crime Prevention Exhibition - a great success
Local businesses and community groups are being urged to attend an innovative show in Gloucester next week.
The Business Security and Crime Prevention exhibition aims to help businesses stop thieves in their tracks and will run all day on March 7, and aims to give businesses large and small advice on the security of their premises.
The event is being organised by the Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership in Gloucester and is open to any business in the county for impartial crime reduction advice.
The day will be held at the Ramada Bowden Hall hotel in Upton St Leonards, and dozens of security companies will be displaying and demonstrating how their products could help put crime out of business.
Crime reduction officers from Gloucestershire Police will also be hand to offer free of charge impartial advice to businesses about how they can improve their security and reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime.
As well as local businesses the day is also aimed at organisations like churches, independent schools, youth clubs, charities and care homes, which can all benefit from increased security.
Amongst the exhibitors will be Glevum Security and Ecclesiastical Insurance, Churchwatch and Simtec Solutions Ltd.
There will be demonstrations from Smokecloak, a security smoke device that woks by rapidly filling an area with a harmless but dense smoke, and Smartwater will be on hand to explain about their revolutionary forensic coding water which deters burglars.
There will also be participation from the planning and urban design sections of Gloucester City Council, Trading Standards, Gloucester Civic Trust, Crimestoppers, the Health and Safety Executive, Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service, the Security Industry Authority (SIA) and the UK police flagship initiative, Secured by Design.
Dr Timothy Brain, Chief Constable of Gloucestershire Constabulary said: “Gloucestershire Constabulary is committed to supporting businesses in the County and to reducing all crime and its impact on the community.
“I strongly urge you to spare some time on 7th March to visit this exhibition and take advantage of the free advice and information available. We must work together to truly ‘Put Crime Out of Business!’”
According to the British Chamber of Commerce, the cost of crimes against the business community is estimated at £19 billion a year, and 64 per cent of businesses have been a victim of crime in the last 12 months.
Bill Crowther, Chair of the Gloucester Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership, said: “Protecting your staff, premises and profits from crime makes very good business sense. Crime costs businesses millions of pounds each year.
“This exhibition is a golden opportunity for businesses and community groups to review their level of security and to speak with experts in their fields. I hope that everyone in Gloucester and indeed the County will take advantage of this excellent event.”
The exhibition runs between 11am and 8pm with presentations throughout the day and is free of charge.
