HAVE FUN AT CHRISTMAS BUT STAY SAFE
17 December 2007
Gloucester Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership (CDRP) are working with the Licensed Victuallers Association to promote a sensible drinking message this Christmas. A DVD is being distributed to pubs and clubs in the city to be shown on the LCD screens inside the premises.
The DVD, which originated in Aylesbury, highlights the effectiveness of the Pubwatch scheme whereby troublemakers who are banned from one LVA premise for anti social behaviour will be banned from all of them. The result is that whilst your friends will be able to have fun in pubs and clubs in the city, you will be barred from entering – thus leaving you to stay home and watch television.
The Pubwatch scheme has been enhanced this year with the introduction of an online means of displaying photos of troublemakers, thus making them easier to recognise and ensuring that bans are enforced effectively.
The DVD will remind everyone of the “Lose your pub, lose your mates!” message and also include a slide of the late night bus routes in Gloucester, the “Go out together, go home together” message and the Challenge 21 campaign.
Chairman of the Licensed Victuallers Association, Keith Reynolds said, “The Pubwatch online scheme has been very effective this year and we are pleased to join with the CDRP to reinforce the message through the DVD that troublemakers will not be tolerated in Gloucester. We want to be able to ensure that Gloucester is a place where members of the public can come and enjoy themselves safely.”
Gloucestershire Constabulary’s Chief Inspector Roger Clayton said, “The DVD shows a partnership approach to dealing with anti social behaviour in our city’s pubs and clubs. The cartoon strip which will be displayed in the licensed premises will remind the public that the Police and those working in the Licensed Trade are determined to work together to tackle alcohol related violence and anti social behaviour. The message is “Behave or Be Banned!”
