MORELAND ON THE MAP

March 15 2007

The Gloucester Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership (CDRP) is working with Gloucester City Council’s Neighbourhood Partnerships Team and people in the Moreland Ward, to look at issues that could be improved in the area.

Meetings took place on 1st March where some residents shared their concerns with officers from the CDRP, the Neighbourhood Partnerships Team, Councillors and Gloucestershire Constabulary’s Matson and Moreland Safer Communities Team.

Further similar meetings will take place on Thursday 22nd March, at 10.30 am and 7.30 pm, at Elim Christian Centre, Parkend Road. Problems will be investigated and solutions sought by working together.

A Community Fun Day is being planned in the Moreland Ward on Saturday 19th May at Calton Junior School, Calton Road from 12 noon - 4.00 pm. There will be services from the area and many stalls with information, fun and entertainment. This will be a great day to meet with other people from the area and have a good time.

The initiative is part of the Home Office’s Changing Lives Making Communities Safer initiative. CDRP Chair, Derek Cross, said: "We are hoping to strengthen the community spirit within the Moreland Ward, encouraging residents to look out for each other. By tackling problems and holding a fun event, we hope that we will give confidence to the community, reduce crime and the fear of crime. "

Anyone from the Moreland Ward who would like to help with the Community Fun Day in May is welcome to come to meetings at 10.30 am on 5th April at Star 66, Seymour Road, Gloucester, or at 7.30 pm on 26th April at St Stephen’s Hall, Frampton Road. There are lots of tasks to be done in preparation and on the day itself so if you are able to help in any way at all (delivering leaflets and posters, collecting articles for a newsletter, arranging stands, equipment or entertainment) please contact Angela Ingram on 01452 396284.
