Operation To Combat Anti-Social Behaviour In GloucesterTackling drugs changes lives

Monday April 10, 2009

Police were out in force at the weekend to combat anti-social behaviour following the recent spate of criminal damage in Gloucester.

Officers conducted extra patrols of the Barton Street and Quedgeley areas of the city on the evenings of Friday April 17 and Saturday April 18.

Operation Breeze was a joint operation with Gloucester Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership as a direct response to recent acts of criminal damage in these areas.

Officers hoped to reassure the communities and gather intelligence about the crimes.

During the weekend, 48 people were stopped and searched by the police and a further 21 were stopped and spoken to. A large number of youths were also spoken to in order to gather intelligence on potential offenders of the crimes.

Inspector Neil Smith, from the Quedgeley Inspector Neighbourhood Area, said: “Following the recent spate of criminal damage, members of the community were unnerved and needed reassuring that the police were working to combat these issues.

“We hope this operation will send out a strong message to the offenders that we take this type of incident very seriously and will work hard to find those responsible.

“Officers are still appealing for information about the criminal damage to cars in the early hours of Monday April 13 and the evening of Wednesday April 15.”
