Opportunity to have a free home security check
Monday February 8, 2010
The Gloucester Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership (CDRP) are encouraging residents to take up the opportunity of having a free home security check.
However, anyone interested must act fast as the opportunity to benefit from this scheme only lasts until the end of March.
Barton and Tredworth Developments (Care and Repair) and Safe Partnership Limited were both successful in their funding bids to the Home Office “Safer Homes” scheme.
This means that homeowners living within the Gloucester City Council area can apply for free home security improvements.
Trained staff will undertake a review of your property and carry out any work needed to improve security.
Items such as door locks and window locks can be supplied and fitted free of charge.
The City Council are also supporting this scheme by providing external low-level security lighting where appropriate.
Unlike other grants already available through the City Council there is no requirement for applicants to be in receipt of income related benefits – although priority will be given to victims of crime, the elderly and vulnerable.
Many homes in the city have benefited from the security grants but there is still some funding available to do more.
Chief Inspector John Lynch-Warden, from Gloucestershire Constabulary, said: “This is an excellent opportunity to receive some security advice and have the work done free of charge.
"At the moment we are enjoying low numbers of burglaries in the city but there is no room for complacency and I would encourage residents to take advantage of this government fund."
Councillor Andrew Gravells, cabinet member for community safety at Gloucester City Council, said: "We want residents to feel secure in their homes and this is a golden opportunity to assist in providing the security measures that will give them the reassurance necessary."
Residents should always check the identity of anyone that calls at their door before inviting them in. All staff will carry identification and will make an appointment prior to visiting.
