GOODIES GIVEAWAY AT CRIME REDUCTION EVENT IN GLOUCESTER

06 November 2007

Come along to the Eastgate Shopping Centre this week to get your mobile phone security marked, free crime reduction gifts and for lots of advice on how to keep yourself and your valuables safe.

The Gloucester Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership is holding its annual community safety event at the shopping centre tomorrow and Thursday.

Members of the CDRP, including Gloucester police crime reduction officer PC Kevin Ireland, will be giving away goodies including key-ring torches and calendars featuring seasonal security messages as well as information on crime prevention.

In addition, there will be informative displays about the CDRP’s work as well as a replica drugs case.

The CDRP is delighted that crimes including robbery, burglary and thefts

from motor vehicles have reduced steeply this year, with 400 fewer incidents being reported than in 2006, but the team is determined to work with members of the community to reduce the figures more.

PC Ireland said: “Although crime is reducing in Gloucester, there will be no let up on our part to drive down crime and anti-social behaviour still further and provide a better quality of life for our communities. Crime can often be prevented by taking small precautionary measures and we are keen to inform residents how they can help to keep themselves safe.

“We also need information from the public on who is committing crime, so I would encourage anyone who can support us in providing that information to ring us on 0845 090 1234 or to call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.”

Encouraging people to come along to the event, Pat Dabbs, CDRP’s Project Development Officer, added: “We want to share the good news of this reduction with residents. We are keen to work with communities to reduce crime and this is an excellent way of hearing the concerns of residents and looking at how we can address their crime-related issues. We have been focusing on working with community groups and partnerships this year and will continue to do this in the forthcoming months.”
