CRIME PREVENTION MESSAGE TAKEN TO COMMUNITY
9th June 2005
Police officers and members of Gloucester’s Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership will be taking their message into the heart of the community at the weekend.
Officers and CDRP members will be speaking to residents at the Hucclecote Community Day on Saturday (June 11) to bring home crime prevention messages to young and old.
As part of Operation Springboard the mobile police station, also known as the Bobby Bus, will be on hand along with PCSOs and police officers to offer advice, and the mobile shed will also be present to show people simple but effective ways of securing their possessions.
The CDRP will be giving away drinks bottles as part of their crime prevention message. The bottles will carry the message ‘Crime is down – keep it that way’ and will act as a reminder to young and old alike that we all need to play a part in keeping Gloucester a safe place.
The CDRP will also have a stand of information including a replica drugs case and advice on how to protect yourself, your belongings and your home.
The Crime Prevention Panel will be security postcoding bicycles and mobile phones free of charge.
Operation Springboard is an enforcement and crime prevention initiative aimed at tackling key crimes such as violence, burglary, vehicle crime and fraud.
“There will be no let up on our part to drive down crime and anti-social behaviour and provide a better quality of life for our communities,” said Pc Kevin Ireland, Crime Reduction Officer for the Forest and Gloucester division.
“We also need information from the public on who is committing crime, so I would encourage anyone who can support us in providing that information to ring us on 0845 090 1234 or ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
Derek Cross, Chair of the CDRP, said: “We are keen to work with communities in reducing crime and this is an excellent way of hearing the concerns of residents and looking at how we can address their crime related issues.”
